Ever get the feeling that people are dropping like flies all around you during cold and flu season? Rather than succumbing to sickness, we’ve been knocking back shots of this Immunity Elixer. Loaded with immune boosting and anti-viral foods, this sunshiny juice works wonders to toughen up your immune system and hopefully keep you feeling fabulous.
Be forewarned that this stuff is loaded with ginger and a dash of cayenne too, so it packs a pretty fiery punch, but if you ask me, the heat is totally worth it to help fight off or shorten a cold or flu.
The elixer is made from fresh pressed orange, lemon, ginger, and turmeric juice with a touch of honey and pinch of cayenne.
Orange is loaded with flavanoids and vitamin C, a top immune boosting nutrient – in fact nearly your entire recommended dietary intake of vitamin C is covered by eating a single orange! Eating oranges and orange juice has been shown to help fight viral infections.
Lemon is another vitamin C standout with the juice being the most potent and concentrated source. Lemons contain the rockstar phytochemical limonene, which has been used to dissolve gallstones and is being studied for its anticancer properties.
Ginger has potent anti-viral properties, alleviates symptoms of digestive distress, and is anti-inflammatory. It’s warming effects can help promote healthy sweating to assist in detoxification and help fight off infections.
Turmeric is anti-inflammatory and has powerful antioxidant effects that protect healthy cells from free radicals that can lead to cancer. It promotes detoxification and has been known to help in the prevention of heart disease, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, and multiple sclerosis.
Raw Honey has not been pasteurized, clarified, or filtered retaining more of the powerful phytochemicals that help protect against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It’s high in antioxidants and has antiseptic properties too.
Cayenne is an effective pain reliever, digestive aid, and can internally lower your body temperature. It prevents colds by stimulating blood flow through the mucus membranes of the nose and sinuses causing mucus secretions to be thinner and more liquid.
